For us ladies living in the UK at the moment, the hope for long summer months might seem to be of a distant dream as we all battle with having three different seasons all in one day. I received a pair of these sandals in tan color (US Size 14), which is equivalent to UK Size 12 way back in May and I have been sitting on it for some time now, so please accept my apologies on this. This is my first shoe review and be rest assured that you will be seeing more pictures of me wearing different styles of shoes in the future.

It’s a lovely sandal that actually accommodates my wide feet. The common problem I have with most sandals is that length is usually fine, but when it comes to the width is always narrow or tight. I was inspired by vintage jewellery to add sparkling and luminous details to iconic Jimmy Choo shapes. I have long been a collector and a fan of Marilyn’s work and know that she can capture the essence of my vision,” says Mellon, whose Choo empire is reportedly valued at $800 million.

“I’m not going anywhere. There is too much future growth in the business for me to leave now. We’re looking at all the different options available to us and it’s hard to know which is preferable until we’ve really examined them all.”

So what brought on the change of heart? Consumers, says Jimmy Choo Chief Executive Officer Joshua Schulman, who recently fostered a partnership between the Choo brand and furry boot brand Uggs.

“The H&M collaboration showed us that our brand is bigger than our business today and that there is a demand for the Jimmy Choo aesthetic in the men’s categories.”

When the line returns in the fall/winter of 2011, it will bring with it dress shoes, moccasins, casual biker boots, sneakers, and evening slippers.

My training clearly expresses the two fundamental sides of my professional character – a degree in Industrial Design at the University of Palermo and graduation in Design of Shoes and Accessories at the European Istitute of Design (IED), Barcelona. I always try to combine artistic creativity with industrial rationality. I like to merge forms and contaminate fashion with other forms of art.

THIS IS MY ARTWORK – UP SHOES

Claudia Civilleri’s UP SHOES is a very interesting project. The original idea involved the creation of models with polyurethane mould but a different process was used in productio to ensure a higher quality of the finished product in terms of ergonomics and stability.

To copy the swelling obtained with the plastic materials, an embroidery machine of the seventies has been found again in a basement, a machine able to sew the strips of two-tone leather, with no visible seams and at the same time, entering expanded material into one of the two colors, creating bulges.

The shoe does not have separate upper and lining, but it is a unique piece. Also outside these shoes is one piece, seamless and blocked just in front. In this way the product is very light and, despite the height of 105mm, the walk is not compromised at all.

A soft, comfortable and elegant object, but at the same time funny and ironic also able to mix style with industrial technology, simplicity of materials with the construction complexity.

New Casbia Shoes Collection from Designer Edmundo Castillo and Manuele Bianchi

Unveiled at Pitti Imagine Uomo 78th edition, Casbia is the latest from uber shoe designer Edmundo Castillo and Manuele Bianchi.

Describing their new line, Edmundo Castillo and Manuele Bianchi said, “Masculine, subversively sophisticated, as up-to-date as the season, and yet something he will have forever, Casbia is both a thing of the past and the wave of the future.”

Offering essential accessories that combine the best from fashion and tradition, Casbia gives sophisticated, stylish men qualities from both, something increasingly hard to find in a single design.

The line offers men essential items for their wardrobe: timeless styles with a contemporary twist for the 21st century.

Modern men pay attention to fashion but they are not driven by it. They also appreciate tradition but they are not stuck to it. They prefer to live, work and dress somewhere in the middle.

Finding that the majority of the men’s shoes were either too classic or too trendy, Castillo and Bianchi were determined to create what they had a difficult time finding. Launched in 2010, Casbia provides accessories that are forward-thinking and fashion-flexible, yet timeless and grounded in tradition.

The Casbia F/W 2010 collection consists of “The Ten Shoes Every Guy Needs in His Closet.” It includes staples such as a calf-leather dress shoe, calf-skin motorcycle boot and suede sneaker. All of the styles are meant to be able to be worn with both business attire and casual wear.

Casbia will make its debut at Saks Fifth Avenue in the New York, Beverly Hills and Washington D.C. stores.

Kindred Spirits Shoes Fashion: Take Ivy, True Prep and Sperry Top-Sider

Two books and a pair of shoes make an unlikely triad. But, when you talk about preppy style, they are interchangeably linked.

Originally published in Japan in 1965, “Take Ivy” had been described by The New York Times as “a treasure of fashion insiders.” Its publication set off an explosion of American-influenced “Ivy Style” fashion among students in the trendy Ginza shopping district of Tokyo.

Surprisingly, though written by non-Americans, “Take Ivy” is now considered a definitive document of this particular style, and rare original copies are highly sought after by “trad” devotees worldwide.

A small-run reprint came out in Japan in 2006 and sold out almost immediately. And tomorrow, August 31st, for the first time ever, powerHouse is reviving this classic tome with an all-new English translation.

Also, from the author of The Official Preppy Handbook comes a new take on the old world that Lisa Birnbach turned into an international best-selling phenomenon thirty years ago.

True Prep: It’s a Whole New Old World, to be released on September 7th, looks at how the old guard of natural-fiber-loving, dog-worshipping, G&T-soaked preppies adapts to the new order of the Internet, cell phones, rehab, political correctness, reality TV and…polar fleece.

The explosion of interest in the pink-and-green lifestyle has also hit the fashion arena with the revival of classic preppy brands, including Sperry Top-Sider, which celebrates their 75th anniversary this year as America’s favorite boat shoe.

The brainchild of Paul Sperry, the Sperry Top-Sider was invented in 1935, which would become the world’s first and most enduring boat shoe. Not surprisingly, Sperry Top-Sider’s birthplace is also the home of preppy style, the American Northeast.

According to Sperry Top-Sider company history, Paul Sperry was taking his cocker spaniel named Prince during a raw winter day in New England. An avid sailor, Paul Sperry noticed how Prince was remarkably stable even at a full run on the snow covered icy crust ground.

And from there, an idea was born – using an ordinary sneaker, several pieces of rubber and a razor blade, the prototype for Sperry Top-Sider was created and the boat shoe was born. Today, that heritage and performance are hard at work for those who can’t live without the water and became an integral part of the New England preppy style.

High Fantasy on Anastasia Radevich Urban Shoes

With the design philosophy, “Taking from my mind all what I’ve seen, looking for what has never been…” Anastasia Radevich titillates the imagination of not just shoe lovers but fashionistas as a whole as she mixes high fantasy ideas to mundane objects to create urban sexy shoes.

“My guiding spirit is mother nature,” said Anastasia when asked who her muse is. And you don’t have to look far to see Gaia in Anastasia’s designs. In her Biofuture 2010 Collection, you could easily recognize “vines” or “rock formations” on the heels. In Kinetik 2011, you think of tree roots and the night sky.

Yet, for those who had seen any of Anastasia Radevich’s pieces, the “high fashion, high concept, and high fantasy” description easily comes to mind. The shoes could easily be worn by the galactic amazons in the sci-fi/fantasy genre.

And because the shapes are organic, it is also easy to shift the focus to high concept. Saving the best for last, Anastasia who gained experience working for Alexander McQueen has kept the spirit of the late British designer in her work. The drama, the showmanship and of course, high fashion!

A graduate of the London College of Fashion where she majored in footwear design, Anastasia has such a good time designing shoes that when asked if she could design only one fashion item and nothing else, she chose shoes without any hesitation.

And just for fun, we asked her that “if the fashion gods told her to banish ONE item of clothing and/or accessory forever, which would it be?” she answered immediately, SHOE LACES because they are from the “Mesozoic Era “.

Armed with her healthy sense of humor and a great talent for design with the belief that fashion is for self expression and fun, Anastasia aggressively develops her label by dividing her time between Europe and Canada. Based in Montreal, where the design process takes place, the shoes are produced in Italy, hence Anastasia finds herself crossing the Atlantic more often than most.

Young and energetic, it is not hard to imagine how she could get her adrenaline pumping all the time. After all, she said that if she did not go to fashion design, she would have tried out to be a test pilot!

Church’s Spring 2010 Men Shanghai Shoes Style

Originally introduced in 1929, Church’s “Shanghai” style personifies the modernity and timeless elegance of the Church’s brand. Reissued for men in fall 2009, the classic Shanghai model is now available for women.

The original 1929 “Shanghai” model was destined for the English colonies and characterized by certain extremely refined stylistic devices and innovations and by the skilled balancing of the juxtaposed colours.

The workmanship and the design of the leather, the tip and heal are typical of a formal shoe, but their juxtaposition with natural hues softens the impact. The model is refined and elegant, but at the same time relaxed and sporty.

A fundamental characteristic of the “Shanghai” style is the detailing of the rubber sole with the name of the brand – CHURCH CO – artfully designed on the sole. This detail is found periodically throughout the history of the Church’s collections, and even in the brand’s contemporary models.

The model was revolutionary when it was first launched, but was immediately part of a tradition and history that renews itself by looking to the future.

And today, history was again made when once more; a style that was just available for men is now available for women.
